make food last
we have a food dehydrator so when our favorite fruits and veggies go on sale we buy in bulk and dehydrate it all, that way we have emergency supplies and ingredients for cooking
cold storage
we live in a cold climate so we have a large mud room that is uninsulated and chilly in the winter, we keep food that needs to be kept cool or frozen on shelves out there so the fridge and freezer are available for open containers and things we use right away
reduce reuse recycle
when i get junk mail instead of just tossing it all i cut out any pictures i like and save them for craft projects and if there are blank fields on the paper i save those for shopping lists etc. scrap paper can be used as long as there's a blank side same with old receipts, use it for your next shopping trip list
reuse old clothes
im a firm believer in thrift , i buy used clothes and i try to pass good clothes on to others as well, once they are threadbare though, you can cut them up for patches, scrap quilts and make purses or pillows etc. fabric can be recycled over and over...even down the the last thread, threads and scraps become the stuffing for pet beds

Glass Dish Baked on Grease
wet paper towels with houshold ammonia and lay over all areas of the dish, put it in a plastic grocery bag and tie shut. leave overnight and the next day is sloughs right off
plastic bags
Make carnation flowers for decorating at wedding, cars etc. with plastic bags. I decorated part of a parade float using them and saved a lot of money. Cut into 3 x 4" pieces, put 4 together, fold like a fan then seperate & fluff. (float took first place)
Fabric Softener Trick
I am the worlds worst at catching the the rinse cycle, so I cut a couple of rags, and I take a very small amount, ( about a half dollar sized dollop) of fabric softener and pour it on the cloth rag and place it in the dryer with my clothes. I get soft clothes, do not add lots of dryer sheets to the landfill, and one bottle of fabric softener lasts me for about 5 times the number of loads in the wash! Works well with the cheaper softeners too!
My Mother taught me this trick when I was a little girl!
