Dishwasher
I use my sister's tip; she hand washes the dishes and uses the dishwasher for a drain board; saves counter space, water, heating bills and soap. I do run the D/W at least once a month to keep the lines from drying out. That's when I put in my stovetop grates, etc.
If you have to use the DW for entertaining put it on the air dry cycle, leave door ajar and everything dries overnight.
Free Fast Food Condiments
Great idea! My family stores the condiments in a large ziploc baggie. Just to save time ;-)
Make Your Own Fabric Refresher
Mix fabric softener(cheap kind works great) w/ water 1/2 and 1/2 .In spray bottle works great smells better too.
"Green" light bulbs
FYI, to the tipsters who believe that the mercury is bad in the CFL bulbs. You are both correct and incorrect. Yes, it does state that the bulbs should not be thrown in the trash. However, you may recycle them at any Home Depot for free. The amount of mercury in them is so minute, that the benefits of the CFL bulb outweigh any added risk to the environment. Pleas purchase and use CFL bulbs. They save you money, Reduce the amount of energy used. Save landfill space, and much more.
Spiral bulbs
I found them at Aldi's for less than 5$
Electric Savings
I now hang as much laundry as I can and don't use my dishwasher( amazing how relaxing dish washing can be and how you get used to doing it!!) My average electric bill went down by $75!!!!!!! That's per MONTH, folks!!
Ketchup
When you go through a drive thru at the fast food restaurant and they ask if you want sauces always say yes or if they give you too much save them I put them in an empty ketchup bottles that I have washed out and if your kids like ketchup like mine do it saves me at least a few bucks a year I admit I use to throw them away...but not any more
Fabric Softner
I saw the tip for the spray bottle and the washclothe idea. You can do the same thing with sponges. I used a plastic ice cream bucket (empty), and places sponges in the softner mixture (half softner and half water), works great too.
